The cast of The Z-Nail Gang

Dave
DAVE (Erroll Shand) is a man who generally avoids conflict and confrontation.  The toughest decision he usually has to make is whether to go surfing or make pottery. Now he finds himself caught in a battle between family and community.
About Erroll Shand

Mareeka
MAREEKA (Tanya Horo) is the peaceful hippy mother of two and Dave's ever-patient wife.  Mareeka is steadfast, organised and committed to doing things legally, finding God in the beauty of nature. But her values are put to the test upon the arrival of Golia Minerals and their plans to drill the community that she loves.
About Tanya Horo

Picture
MALACHI (Malachi White) and JOJO (Joseph White)
While the parents sit around discussing endless options, it’s the next generation who jump in and take action.  Not yet bound by adult convention, these two and their freedom represent everything the community are fighting for.

Picture
NED (Paul Ballard) is the town's rural postman. Lovably eccentric, Ned is a veritable “gold mine” of information, yet he himself
is limited in his ability to relate to others. His quirky nature
is very much accepted in this quiet township but the reality very quickly hits home that if this were a mining town, he’d be crucified.
About Paul Ballard
Picture
ETHEL (Julie Collis) is the Sheriff's wife.  A mother, provider
and victim of his dominant overbearing.  But it isn't until the mounting tensions in the wider community begin to affect things closer to home, that her allegiances are finally put into question. Maybe now is the time for Ethel to find her own voice?
About Julie Collis
Picture
TIPENE (Coben Storer-Goto) is the local cop who spends more
time fishing than crime-fighting.  He cares for his community
and the people in it, preferring to guide them away from their misdemeanors rather than bust their balls.  But with a certain battle looming, will that be enough to keep him and his township safe?
About Coben Storer-Goto
Picture
TED BATES (Jim McLarty) is the smarmy Texan owner of Golia Minerals and represents the worst of capitalism. His only agenda
is to make money out of this little country, with little thought for consultation, democracy or the environment.
About Jim McLarty

Picture
AUNTY (Vanessa Rare) is a voice to be heeded. One of the initial advocates for direct confrontation Aunty is both a powerful fighter and leader, especially of women. Her understanding of how Maori have historically been treated by the establishment becomes a driving force in her fight to protect Te Maunga.
About Vanessa Rare

Picture
THE SHERIFF (Paul Barrett) is the wealthy badge-wearing local farmer who sees himself holding the higher status in the town.
The true patriarch, he dominates his family and any one else who happens to cross his path. The Sheriff is pro-mining in his stance
and he has a fair point – the community could use the jobs.
About Paul Barrett

Picture
DEAN (Stuart Shacklock) is Sheriff and Ethel's unemployed son.
His overbearing father gets him a job with the visiting prospectors from Golia Minerals, where he is once again made to feel less than adequate.  However, the influence of some friendly 'out-of-towners' could be the way out he is finally looking for.
About Stuart Shacklock
Picture
SERGEANT SMITH (Geoffrey Dolan) is sent out from the city to control the “muesli munching eco-nuts”. The antithesis of Tipene,
his job is to uphold the state requirement and assist Golia Minerals with their plans. He's not a complete tough nut though, he also has
a fondness for the local meat pies.
About Geoffrey Dolan
Picture
THE PROSPECTORS: TOM (Mike Lowe) and FRED (Phil Brown)
are Golia Minerals' Australian prospectors. Their experiences in prospecting for gold, from Iraq to Africa, hasn’t prepared them
at all for a community like this!
